About
An independent shop, working one loop
Wolf Appliance Repair Chicago covers Logan Square, Wicker Park, North Center, Portage Park — four neighbourhoods on the northwest side that sit on a single route. Professional cooking appliances only: ranges, wall ovens, rangetops and hoods.
A professional range is not one appliance. It is a gas train, a spark system, a set of valves, an oven cavity with its own sensor and board, and a door that has to seal — and every one of those fails in a way that reads, from the kitchen, like the same complaint. So the first half hour of a visit is measurement, not disassembly: manifold pressure at the regulator, a probe on the shelf through a full preheat and hold, resistance across the sensor, spark at each electrode.
That order matters most on this side of the city. A lot of these kitchens are gut rehabs in buildings that are a century old, and the gas service reaching the range is not always the gas service the range was specified for. A cooktop that cannot hold a low simmer and an oven that runs cold together are usually one supply problem wearing two costumes. Replacing an igniter would have fixed neither, and you would have paid for it.
Nothing gets ordered on suspicion. You get the readings, a firm figure covering parts and labour, and a plain answer about whether the repair is worth doing on that particular appliance — including the times the answer is no.
A visit, in the order it happens
-
Model and serial before anything else
Off the frame, not off a photograph of the appliance. Fuel type, configuration and what changed in the week before you rang. Most of these faults are already down to two candidates by the end of that conversation.
-
Readings, taken under load
Manometer on the gas train, probe on the middle shelf, meter on the sensor and the spark circuit — with the oven and the cooktop running together, because a marginal supply looks perfectly healthy when it is only asked to do one thing at a time.
-
A firm figure, then the part
One number covering parts and labour, agreed before anything is ordered or opened further. Where the honest answer is that the appliance is not worth the repair, that is the answer you get.
-
Proved before the van moves
The same readings again with the repair in place, shown to you rather than summarised. An appliance that lights is not the same as an appliance that holds its setpoint.
Things this page is not going to tell you
- A headcount. How many people turn up in a week is not something this page will pretend to know, and a number invented to fill a sentence is the easiest lie in the trade to get caught in.
- A first-visit fix rate. Nobody has measured one, so quoting one would be decoration. What we will tell you on the day is whether the part is on the van.
- A licence number. Licensed, bonded and insured. We provide our licence number to customers on request.
- A refrigeration certification. These are cooking appliances. The federal refrigerant certification covers work nobody here is asked to do, so it is not claimed.

What you are actually being promised
-
Measured, not guessed
Manifold pressure, cavity temperature at the shelf and spark at each electrode — taken on the way in and again on the way out.
-
Firm price before the work
One figure covering parts and labour, agreed before a part is ordered or a panel comes off any further.
-
Factory-spec parts
Ordered against the model and serial off the frame, not against a photograph of the old part.
-
Written diagnosis left behind
What was measured, what it read, and what was done — on paper, whether or not you go ahead with the repair.
Licensed, bonded and insured. We provide our licence number to customers on request.

The symptom is enough to start with. Dispatch takes the model, the fault and the address, and books the window it can actually keep.
